Week 3 is over, which means we’re a quarter of the way through the Semester’s teaching time. If you were too busy panicking over your exam timetable, here’s the news you might have missed.

Activism

On Friday, hundreds of students from both the ANU and University of Canberra met at the Kambri precinct to support the Canberra School Strike 4 Climate. They later marched to Garema Place where an estimated 2000 people had gathered to show their support for the cause. The strike coincided with similar protests around the world urging effective government action on climate change.

ANU Union

Candidates began online campaigning for elections to the ANU Union Board. The two main tickets, Revive and Relaunch, are associated with Labor Left and Right respectively. Elections for the four vacancies will be conducted at the ANU Sport and Recreation building this week, starting tomorrow at 11am.
ANUSA

ANUSA held a Broulee Beach trip for first-years on Saturday. Tickets to the event sold out. The trip was a replacement for ANUSA’s First Year Camp, which was cancelled the day before it was due to begin  due to “unforeseen circumstances” relating to the debriefing of mentors.

Ophel Re-Trial

The Ophel trial entered its second week, with the Court hearing from a number of students who witnessed the incident, and police officers and security staff who arrived on the scene. The Court also heard from a number of psychiatrists. The daily blog of the trial can be found here. Please note that the daily blog contains a high level of detail, which may be distressing or disturbing.
